PPG GLASS FACED WINDSHIELDS FOR AVIO NG

Eclipse operators know the pain of repeated windshield replacements all too well. For some, replacing their failed acrylic windshields has become an annual event.

If you have an aircraft equipped with the Avio IFMS avionics suite you can replace your acrylic windshields with the greatly improved glass faced windshields manufactured by PPG.  The PPG windshields offer better performance, a longer warranty, and a spare temperature sensor at the same price as the acrylic windshields.

For those operators that have fallen in love with their Avio NG aircraft, you haven't had the option to install the glass faced windshields...until now!

HOW DOES THE SYSTEM WORK?

The RAS Temperature Compensator monitors the PPG windshield's temperature.  Using complex circuitry and algorithms, the Temperature Compensator converts the PPG windshield's status information into data that the aircraft's existing Aircraft Computer System (ACS) software will understand.  Essentially, we make the aircraft think that there are still Nordam windshields installed while operating the PPG windshields within their proper parameters.  The MFD retains the same display you are using now, no complicated conversation tables, just operate your Avio NG aircraft as you always have.

WHAT WILL I NEED TO UPGRADE MY AIRCRAFT?

To upgrade your aircraft, you will need to order the Eclipse MB 500-56-001 kit from Eclipse Aerospace.  That kit includes two new windshields, and a new glare shield.  Separately, you also need to order the RAS STC SA04260CH installation kit.  The RAS kit includes two Temperature Compensators, mounting bracket, electrical connectors, and installation instructions.

WHICH AIRCRAFT ARE ELIGIBLE FOR THIS UPGRADE?

If you have an aircraft with Avio NG 1.3, Avio NG 1.5, or Avio NG 1.7 avionics, and equipped with ACS software versions 5.1.06 or 5.3.06 then your aircraft is eligible for this STC.

DOES THIS STC ALSO ALLOW THE INSTALLATION OF PPG COCKPIT SIDE WINDOWS?

Yes it does.  Since both the windshields and side windows are cycle limited and must eventually be replaced, we made sure that our STC covered both.

DOES THIS STC COVER AVIDYNE EQUIPPED AIRCRAFT?

Not at this time.  Due to the complexity of this project we elected to address the larger Avio NG fleet first.  We will be developing an additional interface device for the Avidyne aircraft based on this STC.

IS THIS STC EASA OR ANAC APPROVED?

Not at this time.  This STC is only eligible for installation in US registered aircraft.  If there is sufficient interest in an EASA or ANAC STC we will work with those regulators to obtain the required approvals.
